My name is Matthew Fryar and I consider myself a young 50.
What is your current Job Position?
I am the General Manager of the Avani+ Hua Hin Resort
How long have you lived in Hua Hin or been coming to Hua Hin?
I arrived in April 2018 after 2 ½ years living and working in Vietnam with the AVANI brand.
What did you know about Hua Hin before you moved here?
I had travelled here before and was well acquainted with Hua Hin through our sister property the Anantara Hua Hin.
What do you like most about your profession?
It is hard to isolate just one as I think that those who choose a career in the hospitality industry have more than just one major ‘like’. If I had to pin it down, I would say that the friendships you make whether it is a colleague or a guest, they tend to be stronger because you have a shared passion for either the industry or travel in general.
What do you like least about your profession?
You must be truly committed and have a passion for the industry in order to be successful. This results in sometimes spending too many hours away from home or personal pursuits, so you need a partner who understands this, I am fortunate that my wife shares my passion of the industry.
What do you like most about Hua Hin?
I love the laid back style of Hua Hin and the diversity of things you can do in the surrounding areas whether it be exploring the nearby National Parks, Rafting, Golfing or just hanging on the beach.
What is your favorite restaurant and why? (please don’t promote your own restaurants)
My wife and I enjoy going to Chom Talay seafood restaurant in Cha-am the food is always fresh and in the evening the feet in the sand dining is cool.
What do you like to do in your free time and why?
I love to play golf whenever I have the chance and Banyan Golf Course is my adopted home course. Its a great way to meet people whom share the same love of the game as I do.
What would you recommend to new-comers to do in Hua Hin and why?
I would say join one of the many social groups around town, it’s a great way to meet people and learn about the local must-do’s Hua Hin has to offer.
Tell us a surprising fact that the public might not know about you?
I was married in Hua Hin at the Anantara and for my wife and I who were living in Vietnam at the time it was the ideal beachside destination to invite our friends from around the world to help us celebrate.
What is the most outlandish thing you have ever done and why?
I once ‘borrowed’ a guests Ferrari with his consent and blasted through the streets of the seaside location I was working at the time. It was the middle of the Australian summer and it was a cabriolet, needless to say my colleague and I couldn’t stop smiling for the rest of the day.
