What is your full name and age?
My name is Britta Kutz and I turned 39 three times 😉
What is your current Job Position?
I am General Manager of the beautiful InterContinental Hua Hin Resort
How long have you lived in Hua Hin or been coming to Hua Hin?
I have been living in Hua Hin since September 2012 and I visited once before we moved here
What did you know about Hua Hin before you moved here?
I knew that the hotel that I will manage is absolutely stunning and I already knew I would be lucky to work with fantastic people. I knew that, because I visited Hua Hin for vacation in November 2011 when I was still working at the InterContinental in Singapore. I fell in love with this place in an instant and developed the plan to work and live here one day.
What do you like most about your profession?
I love the versatility of my job. Every day I get to interact with many different nationalities and people with very diverse back grounds. In my job it is very hard to develop a routine and I like that. I do have a daily plan but most likely I will amend it a few times during the day depending on the requirements of the people around me and unexpected situations unfolding. Another aspect I love is to learn so much about different cultures and to share what I learned with our guests from abroad. Especially when guests come to Thailand for the first time I love to see how they experience the culture and hospitality and to see them falling in love with it. It is very fulfilling to be a part of this experience being their host.
What do you like least about your profession?
Saying good bye. Hospitality is a profession of constant movement. Be it really nice guests that stay with us and we have to farewell them, or colleagues that move on to their next assignment or me and my family moving on to the next adventure. As much as I love moving to different places to make new experiences and meet new friends – the good-bye part is always tough. Therefore I am very thankful for modern technologies that make it much easier to stay in touch.
What do you like most about Hua Hin?
Most of all I like that, despite of all the residents and visitors from abroad, Hua Hin has kept its “Thainess”. In addition Hua Hin offers a great variety of things to do and I also appreciate the proximity to Bangkok. For me it is the perfect combination of a laid back Thai fishing village and a modern beach resort offering all amenities one can desire.
What is your favorite restaurant and why?
In terms of dining I openly admit that I am very spoilt, living in the Resort and having the choice of award winning Thai, Italian and a Beachfront Seafood Restaurants every day. That is probably why I love to go outside and eat in small local restaurants. My favorite is the Thai restaurant of the family of one our employees located in soi 51.
What do you like to do in your free time and why?
Most importantly spending time with my family. And there is actually not one particular thing that we like to do. We really enjoy the variety here in Hua Hin and we like to different things. From visiting the great new Vana Nava Water Park, over spending a nice Sunday afternoon at the Hua Hin vineyard or taking my daughter on a play date with her friends at the great playground of Electric Mango to just relaxing somewhere by the beach – we totally take advantage of all the great things Hua Hin has to offer.
What would you recommend to new-comers to do in Hua Hin and why?
Congratulate yourself because you have come to one of the best places in Thailand. Enjoy and please pay respect to the traditions and the people of this wonderful country. Relax, take it easy be open minded and let the Thai culture and the charm of Hua Hin capture you.
One other, more practical, tip: If you don’t play Golf yet, start here. I don’t know any other place that has the density of so many great golf courses like Hua Hin. Unfortunately I still haven’t managed to listen to my own advise, but it’s still on the to do list.
Tell us a surprising fact that the public might not know about you?
As a child I sang in a radio commercial for a Dutch potato brand …. This will be even more surprising for people who know me well, as I really cannot sing!
What is the most outlandish thing you have ever done and why?
Working in the hotel business for over 20 years now, I had the pleasure of experiencing many weird situations. One of the most awkward and memorable ones was probably to arrange a shopping tour for Michael Jackson in a shopping mall after opening hours and then being the only persons in the mall together with him and his followers
