If there is one thing that Bangkok is not in a shortage of it’s places to shop. From high end ultra-luxe shopping malls to street side shopping stalls there is no shortage finding a place to spend your baht.
Those on the other side, doing the selling however have a difficult time making their shop or mall standout from all of the rest. Recently a group of Bangkok residents spent countless hours pondering this question when it finally came to them. Instead of “thinking outside the box” as were always told they decided to “think inside the box”, with the box being shipping containers. Their new idea was to create an outdoor exhibition market entirely out of real shipping container which they called ARTBOX.
ARTBOX is unique in that it’s only open a few times a month for 3 days at a time. Each opening is called an episode and each episode has a different theme. Episode 4 runs from 31 July to August 2nd with the theme “When I was young.” Episode 5 runs from the 7th to the 9th of August with the theme “Magic of color.”
ARTBOX is big with over 300 stalls in the fashion zone and 100 stalls in the café zone. They also host mini concerts and have a beer garden. The market is geared to attract urban hipsters looking for a constantly new experience.
One of the secrets of ARTBOX’s success is its location. When you have been working throughout the week the last thing you want to do is be stuck in traffic trying to get somewhere. ARTBOX is easily accessible using the Airport Link and getting off at Makkasan station.
