McFarland House is located on the grounds of the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Hua Hin. It is a restored 19th century pavilion, rich in history, that has been transformed into an airy beachfront bar and dining area.
Tucked away, on the beach, it is a superb romantic location. It has the feel of exclusivity but it’s not really that expensive when you take into consideration where you are and the quality of the service and faire you are receiving.
What I like is that the menu is varied, allowing for all tastes and pallets. You sit in some of the most scenic surroundings in Hua Hin and if you want, the staff will arrange a romantic candlelit table down on the beach for you where you can let the sand run between your toes. It’s like Valentine’s night every night of the week.
The night we were there we began our dining experience with two starters; the “Tapas Platter” which included Crab Spring Rolls, Chicken Satay, Grissini Beef and Chorizo Empanadas with all the proper sauces. The other starter was their “Cold Mezza Platter” which was servings of Hummus, Tabbouleh, Baba Ganosh and Fattoush all served with pita bread. A wide variety of tastes and textures that although filling only got our taste buds salivating in anticipation of our entrée’s.
Our entrees arrived after an appropriate wait and looked as good as they tasted. I had the Jumbo prawns that were accompanied by a blend of sautéed onions, barley, sun dried tomatoes, olives and orange pesto. My guest had ordered her favorite, Grilled Lamb Chops which were accompanied by sautéed onions, sunflowers seeds and capsicums with a glazed rosella sauce. Shared bites proved that both entrees were well chosen and further proven by the empty plates that were collected when done.
Being known as a man who never met a desert he didn’t like, I was very pleased with the choices we made. A light but immensely favorable Lime Sherbet and their Coconut Lemongrass Crème Brulee. Although both enjoyable the Crème Brulee was devoured the fastest with both of us noting the deliciousness of the sweet crunchy coconut chips on top.
A recent poster to Trip Advisor said after dining at McFarland House, “It’s a really fantastic experience just waiting to happen” and I couldn’t agree more.
