Typical Thai food is easily available at every street turn, and at every five-minute walk from whichever spot of cosmopolitan Bangkok you stand on. However, if what you truly desire is to experience true Thai tastes, from all its diverse regions, at a stylish, comfortable, and renowned eatery, the Mango Tree Restaurant on the River is where you need to make your next reservation.
Located at the upmarket Yodpiman River Walk development in historic Krung Thonburi district, the restaurant is known to offer a unique local dining experience based on both traditional and Thai fusion cuisine worked on with extreme delicacy and care for detail.
The popular restaurant’s gastronomy ranges from absolute authentic classics to modern takes of old favourite dishes complemented too by new gastronomical inventions such as mixology. The night we were there we tried several of their most popular dishes and it was easy to see why. We started with their Larb pork ribs and Pork Satay graduating to their Australian Beef Thai Salad and their over the top Lobster Phad Thai. The flavours were harmonizing and the presentation splendid.
Alongside the delicious Thai delicacies found in its menu, what makes the Mango Tree on the River such a special place to dine is its strategical placement by the river. The gentle breeze coming from the mild flow of the marvellous Thai waterway, along with soothing Thai music in the background, makes the eatery unforgettable and most definitely a favourite.
The sunset seen from this welcoming restaurant is the picture-perfect way to start a romantic date with your significant other or the perfect end to a busy day of work or museum visits, temple hopping and market exploring.
Adding to the fun of this special restaurant is the fact that they will collect you, either from your riverfront hotel or from one of the many Thai transit pier’s, in their own private speed boat and motor you to the restaurant and back, Tuesday thru Sunday.
The Mango Tree group has a vision to bring authentic Thai cuisine with a creative twist to the world, and to plant a Mango Tree in every major world city. The pioneering spirit continued when the group’s CEO and celebrity chef Pitaya Phanphensophon, Srichai’s son, opened the first Mango Tree restaurant in the heart of Silom in 1994. Today, the group operates more than 70 restaurants and cafes in 15 countries in Asia, the Middle East, and the USA.
