One of the most challenging businesses to be in is the restaurant business, especially in Hua Hin where your choices seem limitless. But, like in any product category, if you are consistently good at what you do, both in product and service and you’re priced right, you’ll always have customers. That is the case with the Palm Bistro Beer and Wine Bar who have been pleasing customers with their quality food, reasonable prices and changing menu for over six years now.
The Palm Bistro is a family friendly restaurant where you can be assured of a delicious meal in a relaxed environment. Their menu is a fusion of Thai & Western cuisine with an astonishing selection of local beers, English Ales and American Craft Beers, both bottled and draught. They also have an extensive wine selection, ciders and cocktails.
While quite a bit of the menu stays the same, there is a nice selection of starters, main courses and deserts that are changed on a weekly basis. Dishes from the weekly selection that prove very popular are then migrated to the permanent menu.
There were four of us on our most recent visit to Palm Bistro. We all began with starters which were Pumpkin Cream soup, Red Pinto Bean served in a Tortilla scoop, Homemade Chicken Pate, with pineapple chutney and Bruschetta with smoked Salmon. I ordered the Pumpkin Cream soup. To be honest, I’m not a big pumpkin fan but I was the last to choose and I didn’t want to order a duplicate dish. I was in luck though because the creamy Pumpkin Soup was really delicious and I would certainly order it again. The Red Pinto Bean served in a Tortilla Scoop starter was on the menu as a test for their themed Mexican Night. I sincerely hope it makes the cut because I’ll definitely be having that. It was like a thick spicy chili with a kick to it. I can’t tell you about the Homemade Chicken Pate with pineapple chutney because that is a dish I just don’t eat but I can tell you that the Bruschetta with smoked Salmon was full of flavor and juicy against the crunchy bread.
Our Mains included the Palm Bistro’s Fish and chips, Seared Tuna with mango Salsa, Spaghetti Olio with Sausage and Pad Krapao Pizza. The Fish and Chips are on their full-time menu and from the picture you can see why it’s so popular. It is a big piece of flaky fish in a nice crispy batter with thick sliced homemade chips, mushy peas and a nice tartar sauce to accompany it. The Seared Tuna was thoroughly enjoyed as was my Spaghetti Olio with Sausage. I like a good Krapao and order it frequently but would at no time have thought to put it on a pizza. My mistake however as all the flavors came together masterfully and I look forward to having another one with a few frosty beverages very soon.
Never one to turn down desert, the Sticky Toffee Pudding with Toffee Sauce and the Warm Chocolate Brownie, served with Ice Cream hit the spot perfectly.
A part of what makes the longevity of the Palm Bistro so admirable is that it’s not located in the center of town, like most of its peers, instead it’s at the entrance to the Orchid Palm Homes 4 housing estate, up and over the hill on Soi 88. The owners of the Palm Bistro are the developers of Orchid Palm Homes and the Mali Residence’s. You don’t have to own a house at Orchid to enjoy the restaurant though as it’s open to the public and has been a very popular and well talked about restaurant ever since they opened their doors six years ago.
The Palm Bistro also has special theme nights that are always well attended. Coming up is a return of their popular Mexican Night on the 24th of February and their Steak Night on the 10th of March.
Tuesday thru Saturday they offer their “Early Bird Special” where from 17:30 to 18:30 you can have one starter and one main or one main and a desert for only 320 THB.
Their Sunday Roasts are so well attended with regular customers that they have started a rewards program. Dine with them on a Sunday and receive a Sunday Lunch card, get a stamp on every Sunday Lunch purchased and receive a free Sunday lunch after 10 lunch purchases. Booking is recommended as they can get quite busy. If you are hungry on a Sunday but their Roast doesn’t quite hit the spot, not to worry, their normal menu is also available. A Kids menu is available six days a week.
The Palm Bistro Beer and Wine Bar is open Tuesday thru Saturday for lunch from 10:30 to 14:30 and dinner from 17:30 to 22:00. Sunday they are open from 13:00 to 17:30.
