Beauty pageants started in Scotland in 1839, the first one held by the 13th Earl of Eglinton, and won by the duchess of Somerset who was proclaimed “Queen of Beauty”. Ever since, and still today, the tradition of these pageants continues both in western and eastern countries. These beauty contests are, and have many times, more today than in the past, been perceived as frivolous, shallow, superficial, trivial and petty competitions focused merely on good looks, on beauty; which is supposed to be “in the eye of the beholder” and “beauty, which is everywhere but not everyone sees it”.
These pageants are known to always target women, which has also caused critique and upheaval amongst feminists and protective parents. With time, and some would argue cunningly and shrewdly, these have evolved to have additional criteria for which women could be judged, for their talent, personality and intelligence. However, nothing seems to be as revolutionary as the following trending beauty competition which was recently held for the second time in Thailand; the Miss Perfect Angle Contest.
With only its name, you would think it was just one of the million beauty pageants held anywhere in the world, however, this is not the case. The Miss Perfect Angel Contest which was held on June 16th 2015 celebrates beauty and charity.
Money raised from the event, after expenses, is given to help build a monastery in San Francisco and to raise funds for the construction of the temple of wealth Bodhi Dharma vision.
The winner of the Miss Perfect Angel 2015 won a Cash prize of 50,000 baht and a golden crown with diamonds. Cash prizes were also given to the 1st and 2nd Runner Up as well as to the woman voted Miss Popular Perfect Angel 2015, Miss Photogenic Perfect Angel 2015, Miss Beautiful Skin 2015 and Miss Talent Perfect Angel 2015.
The event had it all, awards worth competing for, feasible and accomplish-able objectives with outstanding morals and values, and of course, a little bit of guilty pleasure at the sight of beauty
