True Arena Hua Hin recently hired Mr. Arturo Navarro as their PBI Tennis Director. Arturo is certified by the United States Professional Tennis Association (USPTA) as an “Elite Professional” and brings his considerable tennis experience and elite level coaching to the members of the club.
Navarro’s previous roles include PBI Tennis Director at the Four Seasons Resort Puta Mita in Mexico where for 3 years his responsibilities included tennis clinics and training for guests of two luxury resorts and home owners, as well as creating and executing their marketing and promotional programs, and improving their tennis programs. Previously Arturo was the PBI Tennis Professional in various world-class sports hotels such as the Bio-Hotel Stanglwirt in Going, Austria, the Jumeriah Beach Hotel in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, the InterContinental Muscat in Oman and the Four Seasons Resort Sharm El Sheik in Egypt.
HOT Magazine recently had the pleasure of sitting down with Arturo to ask a few questions;
HOT: Arturo, how did you ended up in Hua Hin?
AN: I work for Peter Burwash International (PBI). We are the leaders in Professional Tennis Management and direct tennis programs around the world. Khun Virapol Cholvibul (General Manager at True Arena) has previously worked with PBI and requested our services.
HOT: How challenging was moving from Mexico to Thailand?
AN: It was difficult due to small time frame (3 weeks), but since we arrived everyone has been very helpful and friendly. We love Thai people, food, culture and the land.
HOT: What does your wife do?
AN: My wife Ulrike is a Kinesiologist and Sports Trainer. She will be looking for ways to help people live healthier lives.
HOT: How and when did you start playing tennis?
AN: My whole family played tennis at Club Casablanca Satelite in Mexico. My brother Guillermo started teaching me at the age of 3 and since then Tennis became my passion. My parents made lots of sacrifices so I could continue playing the sport, and competing.
HOT: Could you tell us about your tennis experiences as a player?
AN: I played junior tennis in Mexico (#3 under 18s), played a few pro events, then got a scholarship to play NCAA Division 1 Tennis for the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and Graduated with a Marketing degree.
HOT: Could you share some of your Goals at TAHH?
AN: To make TAHH a very popular place for tennis players for all levels and ages, to help players achieve their maximum potential, to increase the popularity of the sport not only in Hua Hin, but in Thailand and to assist True Arena Hua Hin become an International Tennis Destination.
HOT: Have you started a tennis program at TAHH?
AN: Yes, we did. We are offering a variety of group classes for Children and Adults for all levels as well as private and semi private lessons. We are inviting anyone who can play tennis to join us for social tennis night on Fridays from 6:30 to 8 p.m. (complementary in April). We are also having a special tennis package for the weekends of April and May. Please call or visit us for more info.
