Hua Hin’s highest bar and restaurant, the Vana Nava Sky, sits majestically twenty-seven stories above the bustling city, offering not just a meal but an experience. As we ascended to the sky bar, the anticipation built with each floor passed, culminating in the unveiling of an unparalleled 360-degree view that encompasses the sprawling city, serene beaches, and the majestic mountains beyond. The sun’s descent painted the sky in hues of orange and pink, a backdrop so breathtaking it seemed almost orchestrated for our visit. The gentle hum of pop music, spun by the resident DJ, added a mellow soundtrack to the evening’s onset.
We were there to sample four new additions to the menu, as well as a sampling of their signature cocktails. Our evening started with cocktails that I have to admit I had never tried before. The first was named after the Cicada Market, at the entrance to Khao Takiap village. The cocktail is aptly named since it projects the sights, sounds, and aromas of the Cicada Market. This vibrant taste begins with a base of rum, infused with blueberries, orange zest, lemon, Hua Hin honey, a homemade hibiscus grenadine, and fresh egg whites. It can compliment a vast array of culinary delights.
Next was the Seniorita, tequila infused with lemongrass, blue ginger, kafir lime leaves, fresh lime juice, and sugarcane syrup. Its tangy taste would complement menu items which are on the slightly spicy side.
And then there was my favorite, the Cold Noodles cocktail. In Korea it is customary to serve cold noodles at the end of a meal. So, alongside the cocktail is a serving of noodles. The unique taste of this drink is based on the Korean liquor soju. It is tastefully mixed with Korean pear vinegar, green chili and other mixers. And honestly, I have never tasted a cocktail like this. It was thirst quenching and zesty at the same time.
First on our list of dining delights were the Aburi Shake Rolls, a culinary masterpiece. This unique sushi roll featured perfectly spiced salmon as the outer crust of the roll. Inside were avocado, cucumber, carrot, with a spicy mayo. Each bite offered a harmonious blend of savory, creamy, and slightly spicy delight. The artistic arrangement of the roll on the plate featured drizzles of sauce and salmon eggs. If you love sushi, this is for you.
Next came the Vietnamese Pulled Pork Sandwiches on toasted bun. The pulled pork was marinated in a flavorful blend of Vietnamese spices and herbs. The bun had been roasted to a soft inside, with a crispy crust. Accenting the pulled pork was the medley of vegetables including carrots, cucumbers, and a taste of cilantro. The result was a harmonious blend of sweet, savory and tangy flavors.
As we were finishing up the first two courses, the Tandoori pizza was brought out. It was an absolute delight for the taste buds. The combination of traditional Tandoori chicken, aromatic spices, and fresh vegetables was served upon a crispy crust, and topped off by a gooey cheese. I had never eaten a pizza without a tomato-based marinade. But this pizza made me a believer.
As a grand finale, we were served Yakitori skewers of beef, pork, and chicken. Each skewer was expertly grilled over charcoal. The result was a juicy perfection of meats infused with a smoky essence that was hard to resist. The beef skewers were tender and succulent. The pork was flavorful and delightfully fatty, and caramelized to a crispy crunch. As for the chicken, the skewers were flavorful with their tender and juicy meat enhanced with a shoyu based marinade.
By the time we had finished our gourmet feast, inside and outdoor tables were filled. Many customers were standing on the glass deck and marveling at the view straight down. That also seemed to be a hit with the children,
Our evening wrapped up beautifully with amazing food and unique cocktails. It was a delightful experience. I’m eager to go back to Vana Nava Sky and can’t wait to show it off to family and friends when they visit. It’s also incredibly romantic. After 8:00 pm, families with children can enjoy dinner on the other side, which offers the same ambiance and sounds as the bar. The bar side is restricted to adults at night. Vana Nava Sky also has space available for large private events, private parties, and even conic weddings in the sky, that you won’t find elsewhere. Vana Nava Sky is open every day from 5pm to midnight.
