    Let’s Go, Krabi

    May 28, 2024Updated:May 28, 20245 Mins Read

Nestled in southern Thailand, Krabi province has captivated visitors for millennia with its stunning natural beauty and rich cultural tapestry. Archaeological evidence suggests human settlement here dates back a staggering 25,000-35,000 years, with Homo sapiens leaving behind stone tools, pottery, and remarkable cave paintings in areas like Ban Tha Le.

Through the centuries, Krabi’s strategic location along ancient maritime trade routes connecting the Indian Ocean and South China Sea transformed it into a melting pot of influences from India, China, Malaysia, and beyond. This diverse heritage is still evident today in the province’s many historical sites.

Officially recognized as a town in the late 18th century during the Rattanakosin period, Krabi flourished economically in the 19th and early 20th centuries due to its abundant natural resources, including rubber and palm oil plantations. But it’s the province’s awe-inspiring scenery of limestone cliffs, turquoise lagoons, and powdery beaches that now lure millions annually.

    Adventure Abounds

For thrill-seekers and outdoor enthusiasts, Krabi offers an endless playground of exhilarating adventures amidst its breathtaking natural landscapes. This southern Thai province has cemented its reputation as one of the world’s premier rock-climbing destinations, with Railay Beach and Ton Sai Beach serving up challenging bouldering routes and soaring cliff faces to scale for all levels. But the adventures extend far beyond the vertical realm.

Explore Krabi’s labyrinth of canyons, mangrove forests, hidden beaches, and otherworldly karst formations by kayak or stand-up paddleboard along the glistening waters. Even sightseeing takes on an adventurous spirit, like trekking up 1,260 steps to the spiritual Tiger Cave Temple for awe-inspiring panoramic vistas. With abundant marine national parks, Krabi is a diver’s nirvana, offering both shallow snorkeling havens and deep underwater realms where leopard sharks, barracuda, and vibrant coral gardens flourish.

    Beach Nirvana

Krabi’s stunning coastline is adorned with an array of world-class beaches, each offering its own unique character and allure. From secluded coves embraced by towering limestone cliffs to lively stretches of soft white sand lined with resorts and amenities, these idyllic shores provide the perfect setting for relaxation, adventure, and soaking up Krabi’s incredible natural scenery.

Phra Nang Beach is famous for its soft white sand, towering limestone cliffs, and crystal clear turquoise waters. It’s a popular spot for rock climbing and trekking to the nearby Tham Phra Nang Nok (Princess Cave). The beach can be reached by long-tail boat from Ao Nang or by walking from Railay Beach.

Railay Beach is one of the most popular beaches in Krabi, known for its dramatic limestone cliffs, white sand, and clear waters. It’s a great spot for rock climbing, swimming, and relaxing. The beach is only accessible by boat, which adds to its secluded feel.

Ao Nang Beach is a vibrant, bustling beach with a long stretch of white sand. It’s one of the best places to stay in Krabi, with many resorts, hotels, restaurants, bars and shops. The beach is great for families, with shallow waters and safe swimming conditions.

    Island-Hopping Bliss

No visit to Krabi is complete without island-hopping to experience idyllic slices of paradise. The Hong Islands, just offshore, rank among the top destinations with their surreal turquoise lagoons surrounded by towering limestone monoliths.

    Culinary Gems

While Krabi boasts exceptional dining at many of its luxury resorts, the province’s diverse culinary scene also shines at its standalone restaurants. These popular local establishments have gained acclaim for their excellent cuisine and inviting ambiances, offering a taste of Krabi’s rich flavors beyond the typical hotel fare.

The Hilltop Ao Nang offers stunning views of Ao Nang Beach and serves a variety of Thai and international dishes.  May and Mark s’ House is a popular restaurant known for its authentic Thai cuisine and friendly atmosphere.  Baitoey Restaurant specializes in Southern Thai cuisine and is a favorite among locals and tourists alike and the Diver’s Inn Steak House is just as the name suggests, this restaurant is known for its delicious steaks and seafood dishes.

    Lavish Seaside Sanctuaries

Krabi offers an incredible array of luxurious seaside resorts seamlessly blending world-class amenities with stunning natural settings. From ultra-exclusive private villa enclaves to intimate boutique escapes, these exquisite properties provide the perfect home base for rejuvenation and exploring the province’s myriad adventures.

Snuggled along the Andaman Sea shores, Phulay Bay, A Ritz-Carlton Reserve epitomizes indulgence with 54 lavish villas, each featuring a private pool and butler service. Dining spans Thai cuisine at Sri Trang to Mediterranean fare at Lae Lay, while the ESPA spa, infinity pools, and immersive experiences like traditional Thai cooking classes elevate every stay.

Rayavadee’s two-story pavilions and villas are hidden among coconut groves at the edge of the marine park, offering utmost privacy and unique dining adventures like The Grotto, set in a limestone cave. Banyan Tree Krabi stuns with panoramic pool villas and meaningful immersions like their Coral Conservation Program.

The Sofitel Krabi Phokeethra Golf & Spa Resort channels French sophistication alongside expansive facilities, including Thailand’s largest pool and a 9-hole golf course. For a more intimate ambiance, the 59-room Tubkaak Krabi Boutique Resort celebrates traditional Thai design with amenities like open-air beachfront dining and the exceptional L’escape Spa using local botanical ingredients.
