If you are looking for a short or long getaway from life’s craze, a place which will ensure you can relax and distance yourself from the boring yet invasive problems of a mere mortal in cosmopolitan godly fashion, the exquisite Banyan Tree Bangkok is just ideal for you.
Bangkok’s Banyan Tree is located on South Sathon Road in the city’s central business district, not far from the Lumpini Park and the Silom area. This luxurious hotel lies only 40 minutes away from the Suvarnabhumi International airport and boasts of not only perfect location but also excellent services.
The Hotel is famous for a multitude of reasons. It houses one of the best roof top restaurants and bars in Bangkok, Vertigo and their Moon Bar, It features its award-winning, internationally recognized, Banyan Tree Spa and it offers one of the most talked about dinner cruises on the Chao Phraya River on board the Apsara, the hotels converted vintage rice barge.
Banyan Tree is a larger hotel with 327 rooms, each offering every up-to-date amenity and facility one could desire. It is a modern sanctuary and a majestic escape offering guests the joy of rejuvenation, relaxation and tranquility amidst the hustle and bustle of fast-paced Bangkok city lifestyle.
Once decided on the Banyan Tree you then have the pleasure of choosing between 10 different room types. The Horizon King and Horizon Twin rooms include a living room, a comfortable bedroom and a bathroom with a personal aromatherapy burner with essential oils which promises incredible views of Bangkok city to the north and the beautiful calming river to the south. The Oasis Retreat King and the Oasis Retreat Twin are designed for both business and leisure travelers with comfortable working areas featuring ergonomic desks flooded with natural light. The bathrooms are designed for relaxing moments with elegant twin black granite basins, a rain shower and big bathtubs with twin headrests. The Oasis rooms also include exclusive access to the club floor “living room” on the 11th floor of the hotel with complimentary refreshments and snacks as well as the private meeting room. The Serenity Club King, the Serenity Club twin, the one bedroom suites, and the two bedroom suites all boast of comfortable living room and resting areas, decorated with contemporary Thai furnishings and provide complimentary access to the Club Lounge. Their Sanctuary Spa Suites feature an in-suite spa treatment room. Finally, the Presidential Suite is a split-level duplex with a spiral stairway, a bubbling jet pool, exclusive relaxation jet showers and electronically controlled curtains to add to the luxury. The Presidential Suite offers guests a gamut of pampering essentials, a complimentary mini bar, a complete toiletries bag and the icing to the cake; a television in the bathroom.
We had the pleasure of staying in their one bedroom suite and can highly recommend it. The suite encompasses three large rooms, the lounge area had lots of seating, a TV and a work desk, the spacious master bedroom with his and hers large closets and then onto the oversized bathroom with a big shower, double vanity, makeup table and a modern bathtub that overlooks the city. Making the room even more enjoyable were the additional services that came with it. Complimentary laundry, up to 2 pieces per day, complimentary use of its boardroom, complimentary free flow of local beers from 10:30AM to 8:PM (that is not a typo) at their club lounge, Afternoon Tea and several hours of evening cocktails with delicious canapes.
When staying in a fine hotel with club floor privileges, you are always offered the opportunity to have breakfast on their club floor. The plus to this is that your breakfast experience is more relaxing due to the limited guests. I’ve found the downside is that you don’t have all the food choices that one would have at the normal breakfast restaurant. Because of this, I tend to breakfast in the larger restaurant. What surprised me about the Banyan Tree’s Breakfast was that they offered a free flow of Proseco. It’s the only Monday thru Saturday hotel breakfast where I’ve experienced this.
As mentioned earlier, The Banyan Tree Spa is quite famous, there are 27 of them in 13 countries. The range of treatments are extensive and broken down into categories such as Banyan Signatures, Time Honored Traditions, Body Treats and Wellness Journeys to name a few.
In addition to being famous for its Spas, Banyan Tree Bangkok is also well known for their dining and drinking pleasures. Here you have 11 different options from their Lobby Lounge on the ground floor all the way to their Vertigo and Moon Bar on their 61st floor rooftop. From the lobby, a fast lift takes you to the 60th floor where you can find the popular Bai Yun Chinese restaurant with delicious Chinese delicacies. After walking past it and straight up a flight of stairs you find yourself outdoors. Acrophobia better not be your weakness, as you will be able to see all of Bangkok laid out below you the moment you step outside. Guests find themselves with the city below their feet and absolutely nothing above them. Other similar venues may have a roof, a wall or even part of the building’s structure blocking part of the view. Not at Banyan Tree. The designers have successfully made sure to eliminate everything and anything that could block guest’s vision of the horizon clearly accentuated by the slim appearance of the building itself.
In addition, Vertigo restaurant serves excellent imported steaks, juicy lamb and fresh seafood making spending a romantic evening on the Banyan Tree rooftop all about dining on top of the world with undeniable class.
If you prefer a few walls and windows with your views, then check out their Vertigo Too Restaurant located on the 60th floor of the Hotel. For more details on Vertigo TOO check out our October issue where we featured it with 4 pages.
If heights are not your forte, the hotel also offers the Apsara Dinner cruise, one of Bangkok’s best gourmet sailing experiences, offering couples and families the pleasure of dining while floating around the great Chao Phraya River. Guests can feast on authentic Thai cuisine, flowing along the river with the views of all the beautifully lit temples in the river side surroundings. It is a romantics dream.
The Banyan Tree Hotel is just what you need if luxury, relaxation and urbane extravaganza go hand in hand while you dream of your next holiday. The perfect combination exists, and it is all embodied in the Banyan Tree Hotel of Bangkok.
